The annoying part

Messengers solved calling people who already use messengers. They did nothing for the calls that actually matter when you are abroad: your parents' landline, a clinic, a bank, a hotel front desk, the guy holding your package at customs. Those still mean roaming charges or a calling card from 2009.

What Telvio does

Telvio makes cheap international calls to real phone numbers - landlines and mobiles - over WiFi or mobile data. The person you call needs nothing: no app, no account, no internet. Their phone rings the way it always does.

Choices we made on purpose

• Zero sign-up. No email, no phone number, no password. Install, type a number, call.
• Minute packs, not subscriptions. $1.99, $4.99 or $9.99, one-time. Nothing auto-renews and minutes never expire.
• Per-second billing, no connection fee. A 38-second call costs 38 seconds.
• One free minute on install, so you can hear the line quality before paying anything.

Rates start around $0.02-$0.03/min to major destinations.

What it is not

Outgoing calls only - there is no inbound number, and it cannot be used for emergency services. iPhone only right now; Android is next.
