I built this for myself first and foremost. I have a problem with budgeting and a very hard time saving. Truly, that's the least of it... I even end up running out of money before my next salary every once in a while.

This is not for lack of income. I'm a well paid software engineer. But I give in to my impulses very easily and I hate tracking my money or just generally organizing things.

Most existent solutions, imho, suck! Too many features, too many things going on. That's not what I want. My core problem is sticking with the idea of tracking expenses and budgeting. The easier & smaller the tool is, the better for me.

Core features of Expensio that I personally love:

• being able to easily fix things when I either forget to track my expenses for a few days or when I just don't care enough to describe what I spend my money on.
• knowing when/if I'll run out of money if I plan a trip or other bigger future expense.
• it's self-hosted so privacy is built in.
