Inboxbid

Pay to rank your newsletter. Outbid to climb.

NewsletterDirectory, Store or MarketplaceOne-time payments
Inboxbid ranks email newsletters by one thing: how much that listing has paid. Pay more than the newsletter above you and you take its spot. Pay less and you land further down, which is allowed and not a mistake. Your payments add up, so moving up later only costs the difference. Nothing expires. The only way to lose your place is if somebody outbids you. Starts at $1.

What does Inboxbid help with?

Most "best newsletters" lists are somebody's opinion and you can't check the working. I wanted one where the ranking is just the money, out in the open.

How a rank gets decided

  • Bids are whole dollars, minimum one.
  • To take a seat you pay a dollar more than whatever total that seat is already holding.
  • Match a total and you don't pass it. Ties go to whoever got there first.
  • Your bids add up into a running total, so climbing later only costs the gap between what you've already paid and the seat you want. You never pay full price twice.
  • Nothing expires. No renewal, no listing that quietly falls off after 30 days. If you want to lose your spot, somebody has to outbid you for it.

What you actually get

A place on the main board and in one of 47 category boards. Your own page, server-rendered, with structured data and a social card. And a line in /board.md, which is the whole ranking published as plain markdown, so ChatGPT and Claude and Perplexity read the actual board instead of a JavaScript shell.

Now the part where I tell you how small this is

The board is ten days old. Six listings, $16 paid onto it total, and the top seat costs $6 to take. That's the whole thing.

I'd rather write that down than imply traction I don't have. And if you run a newsletter, it does mean six dollars is currently the entire cost of being number one on it.

Built on Cloudflare Workers and D1, payments through Stripe, board rendered on the server.
