Why it matters

Googlebot executes JavaScript. Most AI crawlers do not. A React site can rank on Google and still be a blank page to ChatGPT. Being unreadable does not make you look bad in the answer. It leaves you out of the answer.

What we found before shipping it

We ran the checks across 49 SaaS sites: 19 category leaders and 30 startups from recent YC batches.

• Two-thirds of the YC startups fail at least one basic AI-readability check, against roughly half of the leaders.
• 79 percent of the leaders serve an llms.txt. Among the YC startups, 43 percent.
• Not one young company blocks an AI crawler. Two of the leaders block GPTBot outright.
• Structured data is the gap both groups share, missing on roughly four in ten sites either way.
