I'm Matt, the solo developer behind Coffee Radar. Thank you for checking it out!
The first thing I like to do whenever I get to a new city is to try the best coffee shops I can find. Both for finding a location for remote work and to find top notch specialty coffee.
Cool projects are born in coffee shops all the time. But even if you aren't a solopreneur, many remote workers visit coffee shops on a daily basis, especially if they're digital nomads.
Back in 2022, while I was travelling in Cyprus, I wondered how an app to only rate the coffee of a place would look like.
That was the initial idea. But then, you know... one feature led me to create another feature, and then another one, and so on. I also knew right from the start that this wasn't going to be a new idea, and that's OK :)
Browsing coffee shops and adding new reviews or new coffee shops, and in general using ALL features is 100% free. There are no "pro" features, or freemium plan, or anything like that.
The main idea is to help you save time whenever you're looking for a coffee shop. The data on Coffee Radar relies on user information and external sources of data. Places are organized and described by AI, which uses real data shared online by real people as a source, like reviews.
On Coffee Radar you can add cafΓ©s or find and review them. Compared to alternatives, here you can vote the specific drink, and add some extra (optional) details: is the place laptop friendly? Is the wifi fast? Are there electrical plugs to charge your devices? And so on.
Give you information, fast, about the coolest coffee shops in locations around the world. If you're looking for a place with an ocean view that serves a top rated flat white with coconut milk, and that at the same time provides a fast wifi and electrical plugs to charge your laptop to allow you to work, and that is also a QUIET place... well, Coffee Radar should help you find it.
This project highly depends on how many coffee shops real users add to the site. I've started by adding literally all the best places I've discovered during my trips. Hundreds of places spread around the world. Then some users found the website on Google and started adding new places as well.
Coffee Radar doesn't want to be a replacement for Maps or similar apps for finding places. It's a side app for people who need a cool place to work from, or for people into specialty coffee. After all, why should you work from a generic coffee chain on dirty tables and drink terrible coffee?
Coffee Radar required over 300 hours of work, and it's still an MVP right now. So why I invested all this effort into it? The 3 main reasons: my passion for specialty coffee, getting known as a dev, and getting inspiration for other products.
This is my first step in indie hacking. I share my journey and products I build in public here π¨βπ»
If you find this product interesting, let me know. Feedback helps a lot, especially in deciding on what features I should focus next!
